On 22 March 2009 Leon collapsed in the 63rd minute of a game against Celtic Crusaders Reserves at Maesteg rugby union ground. He was airlifted to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where he was pronounced dead.
Before joining Salford, he played for amateur side Churwell Chiefs. Walker joined the Salford City Reds in 2006 and played for the club for three years. After his rookie season he was named the Salford Reds Junior Academy Player of the Year.
In 2007 Walker represented both the Yorkshire and England U18 sides.
He joined the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in November 2008, joining their senior academy side.

CRY Donation
Steve and Donna,
Not sure if you remember me but you presented the memorial award to me back in 2009 at The Willows, Salford.
I have arranged a dress down week at my work as a tribute to Leon.
All staff will be donating £5 which will be donated to CRY Cardiac Risk in the Young. Your son was a hero and i was one of many who looked up to him as a role model in rugby league.
I will update the page on how much has been raised once we have had the dress down next week.
Best Regards
Andy Waring (Former Salford Reds Academy player)
